It's August 9! I know a lot of friends and family members who celebrate their birthday on this very day. My late father was on August 1st, and my Kuya on August 28th, the very feast day in CDO City, Philippines. Two of my pamangkins has the same birthday which is on August 17th, Kate Joeveeh and Kate Joyce, yeah, they're sisters. And another pretty and talented niece is on August 25th. Ahhh... what a celebration!
But today being August 9th is my Mama Domie's birthday. My very gracious and kind mother-in-law. So I'll be dedicating this post to her...
Her and Papa Nic... so inseparable!People fondly call her Nang Doming or Sister Domie. She is Inday to her husband Nicanor, Sr, mama to her children and Lola to all her apos. I've known her since our courtship days, as like me and swithart, she is very active in church where we are members. She leads the Home and Family Department, a member of the Deaconesses and Women's Ministry. So much respected by young people and adults because she is naturally born to be respected and she lives a life having deep respect for each individual. I remember when swithart was still courting me, she thought we were already lovers that time and she anxiously told her son to get marry right away if we were already on. She did it because she was worried about her son not interested to settle down when he wasn't getting younger anymore. Lol! Well, swithart told me that when his mama would say something like that, she meant to say that she likes the lady that his son is going out with. Hmmm.... for a 'decent' woman like me, what great compliment that was, don't you think?
When swithart and I were struggling with our long distance relationship, she was there to support us both. I can feel her love and care towards me that ladies who know us envy me. Really. And for all those times I've felt her motherly love, I'm as grateful as I can be. It's not that great celebrating birthdays here in the US because in our place in CDO, we are used to being serenaded early dawn on our birthdate! I am pretty sure Mama missed and is sick of thinking about home these days. (Well, they said they can't wait to go home later this year!) Here, she only has few people around to talk to as she isn't that confident with her English language. But back in our place, she is known for being wise a counselor and expert in giving advices. She is trusted. And she lives what she says.
She is far unique than most people are. Her humility and kind-heartedness is beyond compare really. I know I am blessed to have a mother-in-law in her person, and I'm forever grateful for the qualities. the good qualities she didn't teach but she shows us with her works. She's one great example of a wife, a mother, and a woman that fears the Lord.
I'm sure she'll be wiping off some tears when she gets to read this, like she did when she read the card I wrote to her this morning. I didn't have material thing to give, only love and care and gratefulness to reciprocate what she has given to us in the past and in the coming days.
Happy birthday Ma! Until forever you will be in our hearts!
